Good performance is an important factor to ensure business quality and a better user experience

In October 2019, Natura opened its first pop-up store in Southeast Asia, more specifically in the satellite city of  Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia.This establishment is considered temporary, as its main purpose is not to sell the products in a physical store, but to generate curiosity in the consumer, as it only works for a specified period.

 

In addition to the physical store, Natura also included e-commerce and sales through Beauty Consultants in the city, through the Natura ON application. But, when implementing all these applications, the company started to face some performance problems in its applications.

 

Aiming to improve the user experience and optimize the performance of its e-commerce, Natura Malaysia contacted the Inmetrics team of specialists to make a complete analysis  of the login flow (Login, Confirmação de Access Comfirmation and Home) both the website and the app, and understand what the points of improvement  were.

The challenges of evaluating application performance go far beyond  troubleshooting. 

 

It is necessary to do constant performance evaluation work and continue with continuous improvements with each delivery of new features and releases. At Inmetrics, we help our customers with application optimization, application load testing and stress testing.

For this, we use a tool developed by our experts, which facilitates the entire process, especially in the context of microservices architectures.

Challenges and Opportunities

Making the website pages faster and reducing the response time of login flows were the challenges raised by Natura for our team. For that, it was necessary to analyze the Web Vitals of the applications, which are a set of metrics that assess the speed and stability of pages in response to user interactions.

When we think about search engines and SEO (Search Engine Optimization), for example, several points are considered ranking factors: giving the best experience to users is one of them.

Impacts of our work

During 1 month, our team of specialists worked on a  a detailed diagnosis of the Natura Malaysia website and application, using the Discovery methodology from Inmetrics, to understand the points of improvement in the brand’s applications.

THE FOLLOWING POINTS WERE STUDIED:

During the entire analysis, our team noticed several types of improvements that could be made so that the applications had a better performance.

 

When talking about the login part, for example, one of the recommendations made by our specialist team was the  pre-load of images, in which the site would have a 21%gain in the total page load time (LCP). Furthermore, by compressing the images, changing the GZIP application to the Brotli standard, the company would have an approximate  20% reduction in image compression and decompression.

 

Another recommendation raised by our team is the use of an efficient cache policy, with an estimated gain of 578KB. For Home, the gain would be 402KB.
